I think I've painted myself into a corner trying to use the companion fare and My Wallet funds together.

"My wallet credits may be redeemed for new ticket purchases only" according to Alaska's terms.

I have a cheap companion fare ticket booked that I want to change to a more expensive trip using My Wallet credit to pay for the difference. It appears I have two options, neither of them good.

1. Cancel the current ticket, lose the companion certificate, but get the full value of the current ticket deposited in My Wallet and then book a new ticket using funds in My Wallet.

2. Exchange for the more expensive ticket and pay the difference in cash, since My Wallet can't be used for exchanges.

Am I missing anything? Any way to keep the companion fare and use My Wallet together? How should I do this differently in the future?
