When I have the ticket reissued, is the fare difference between the original price of the two fares at the time of ticketing, or is it the price of the current FRWSTAR2 minus the price of the original FRWSTAR1 (plus a reissue fee in both instances, of course).

thought I had read something here that indicated it was the former. Thanks!
To the best of my knowledge.

As you have not started travel yet - you can not alter the ticket. Only way is to cancel the ticket and buy a new one. Cancellation fee is US$ 100 - basically the same as reticketing fee - so no loss or gain there.
You can only change the ticket after the first coupon is used - in some cases now after the first intercontinental leg of the ticket (depending on where you buy it).
If you change mileage after start - the fare difference will be based on the fares applicable at time of purchase of the original ticket. However you will not receive a refund if the mileage will be a lesser distance.

Cheers
