Yes, that's because the bathrooms are where the row 7 window seats should be. Normally, other airlines that do staggered seating compensate for this by removing the row 7 middle seats and moving the galleyway forward, allowing the second cabin to be staggered as well.
It indeed is quite unfavorable to sit in the second as the experience quite different than the front.
