Stayed at a Hampton for a couple of nights in Lehi, UT late last year. I stopped by the front desk on the way out the first morning to let them know that the toilet ran all night. It didn't bother me (and I told them so) because once my hearing aids come out for the night... noises like that cease to exist. I just pointed out that while it wasn't a problem for me, they were literally dumping money down the drain.
When I returned that evening there was a handwritten note thanking me for "giving them the opportunity to correct a problem". The note also said that they were giving me 10,000 points "for my trouble", and there was also a $10 Starbucks gift card.
I really feel like the response was over the top for such a small problem, but I guess it served its purpose since I stayed again the next week, despite the fact that they were not the nearest option to where I needed to be.
