IIRC Delta tried to do this a couple of years ago and reversed course when a bunch of us complained. Either they forgot or more likely they are aware of the backlash and don't care.

It's stupid because the data is still available. You just have to do a dummy booking in the class to see the seat map. One extra step in a system that already needlessly complicated.... IE using certificates.
