While there is a heliport by Crown in Melb CBD that normally flies to Essendon airport, which is a few miles from MEL. Getting landing slot at MEL is difficult but possible, but heli from CBD to MEL costs in the $20,000 range, more than F to LAX. Sorry for getting the hotel name wrong, I remember it as the Hilton which it stopped being some years ago. Way better than the Holiday Inn, if you have a choice.
