I'm supposed to be flying on Monday.
Unfortunately, my partner has been urgently referred for a hospital appointment, for something they think is a tumour. The appointment is while I am supposed to be away (Wednesday).
I do not want her to have to go to this appointment alone for obvious reasons, so I am looking at my options to postpone/cancel my trip.
What are my options? I do not have a flexible booking - outbound was W/R class and inbound are Q (I think - or possibly the other way around)!
Do I basically just lose the money?
Thanks for any input.
rhivolution welcome to the QR forum.
First you need to get the fare rules for your reservations. These are an attachment to the original booking confirmation e-mail.
These rules will tell you what is possible for you to do. You cannot use a generic set of fare rules because they vary from origin to origin, from ticketing class to ticketing class and sometimes from offer to offer. I Exaggerate only slightly when I say 'they are unique to your reservation'!
Some sets of fare rules do not permit changes or refunds but most do.
If you want to make changes before the first flight of your reservation then usually the entire ticket will be repriced to the current fares for the ticketing class(es).
One possibility may be to cancel the flights but not the reservation so that you can rebook later. If you do this then make sure that you note the reservations number (6 character alphanumeric code)for later reuse. The reservations number is not accessible online after all flights on it are cancelled. It just disappears from view!
The fare rules may also permit a refund minus a refund charge.
Whatever you do you will need to contact QR.
However before doing anything look to see if your travel insurance covers this as a medical emergency. Many do.
