On the other hand, Star Alliance credits by operating carrier, so if the fare class qualifies (the NZ fare class that it maps into, not necessarily the same as the TN fare code they market it as), then in theory you should be able to credit the TN codeshare to UA.

In any case, unless the layover in PPT is quite long, I'd still be inclined to book it as a single ticket. What happens when you try to pull it up on Matrix or even Expedia as opposed to the airline sites directly?
I can pull it up on the ITA Matrix site and Expedia. The layover is not long in PPT, 1 hr and 50 min. For easy with baggage I am inclined to book on one ticket. Just wondering if I can somehow credit miles NOT with TN or NZ because I may never fly those airlines again and there is no transferable currency I can easily put in there (AMEX, Citi, Chase) to bolster the accounts down the line.

If I have no better option I'll just open an account and get whatever points I can get but if I can credit to another US legacy carrier even at a worse ratio I'd take it, better than orphan miles in TN/NZ accounts.
