United - 500 Bonus Mile Shopping Promo

It states that Gift Cards or other cash equivalents are excluded from the promotion. I understand that buying a Macy's GC would not count but what about using Raise to buy a GC? All Raise does is sell GC's so is this a valid purchase or have they excluded this and similar merchants from being part of this promotion?
