Would also be interested on how you find the backpack straps on the Osprey in comparison to the Goruck since you don't use or like the hip belt. I have the 20L Rucker and the one thing I love about the Goruck is that with those straps, you don't need a hip belt for heavier loads. I really like the Osprey Porter but with a heavier load, I find the hip belt really helps for longer times on the back (though in all fairness, the Osprey carries almost 2x as much).
Your last sentence hold the key. Just because a bag CAN hold a ton, doesn't mean you should overstuff it. I learned the hard way that weight is paramount. I never let any of my packs get over 15lbs, thus the straps aren't super important to me (unless they are just horrible). I've always said, if you need a hipbelt, you've packed too much stuff!
