While I understand in most cases wanting to work directly with the airline rather than a third party OTA...the expedia/AA relationship appears to work different than most OTA's in my experience. Many other times when booking with a TA or OTA, I have to go back to the OTA for any and all changes, issues, problems, etc. For AA tickets issued by expedia, when I call in, or at the airport, AA handles my ticket (changes, seat assignments, upgrades, cancellations, etc.) EXACTLY the same as if I booked it direct. (My corporate policy specifies we have to use expedia for hotels and flights, which is annoying, but alas).
I have yet to find any disadvantage in booking my flights with expedia rather than directly with AA. Last year I had 225k EQMs, I already have 105k EQMs this year on 21k EQD's, but your mileage may vary. If I were running into the issue you are, I'd just use expedia.com.sg
Expedia, which also owns Orbitz, and Travelocity has agreements with multiple airlines to have the airline handle issues after initial ticketing. No fee charged for taking over a ticket by the airline.
