This has worked previously. Upon contacting AA, they have advised me to use the local website of the country the CC has been issued - which does not exist (Singapore).

Currently the only way to purchase a ticket is to call reservations hotline, which is quite annoying. Another way is either to use the German AA website, or the Japanese AA website, as both use Amadeus booking system, which apparently has no issue with changing that option. However - currency conversion fees apply on my credit card every single time I do that.

AA is pretty much aware of this issue (and the fact that it has worked for years before that changed), but apparently cannot roll back or fix the issue (or won't?).

Most of the time I have to argue about the reservations fee, because the agents are not aware of this issue and always refer that I could complete the booking online - which I can't.

I've tried to get in touch with AA two times now, but have only received a standard answer and 5000 RDM - that's it. I know I'm probably the minority here, but if anyone has the same problem or any suggestion I'd appreciate that.

Also.....problem with the Canadian website trying to book a ticket with AA originating from a U.S. departure point. It won't accept a USD issued cc from a Canadian bank up here (which I know a vast number of people have. e.g. snowbirds who winter in the U.S.) because the address associated with the card is in Canada.

For those with USD cards trying to buy USD tickets on AA, why pay in a foreign currency?

The AA.com site forces you over to the Canadian version and suddenly, not only are the fares in $CAD, but the exchange value is not great.

When I called AA about it, the boilerplate answer is that is how the airlines have to do it....and occasional usage of the word DOJ rules...

I suppose one could use a good TA, or as others do, use a TA in the country where you are trying to buy the ticket so it is issued in the currency you want.

I just gave up and haven't bought a ticket from AA since last year.

YMMV
