Not everybody can book that far in advance.

I am looking at LAX-JFK in business for next week (M to Th) and the fares are:

Jetblue: ~$2300
Delta: $2900-$4500
Virgin:$2400-$3600
American: $3900-$4000

So, it REALLY depends on the particular situation and one can't say they are ALL priced the same ALL the time and analyze on a vacuum.

With those price differences, the small differences become negligible.
