So an update and looking for advice. I'm going to fly in to se asia in mid-june and end on july 10th. I have a layover in tokyo where I will spend two nights three days (I was just in Tokyo last year and I'm just taking advantage of the free layover). Then I fly into Hanoi. In vietnam I want to see Hanoi, Halong Bay (i'm travelling on my own so I probably don't want to spend a ton of time in the bay but maybe an overnight cruise or just do it in a day? How will the weather be in the area at the time of year?), Hue, Hoi An, DaNang, Saigon, Mekong delta. Are these the best places to visit in vietnam? What is the best way to get around? Should I take a flight from Hanoi to Hue? Is DaNang worth visiting? How about China beach? I take it I would need to catch a flight down to Saigon as well? What would be the best way to break up my time at these destinations in vietnam? My understanding is Hanoi has a lot to see, which would require more time Hanoi or Hue & Hoi An? I was thinking two nights in Saigon?

Once I get to Saigon and southern vietnam this is where I am unsure of where to go. I was going to hit bangkok, but I am unsure if I should head there right after vietnam or go into the phillipines etc first? My flight out (at least at this point) is planned to be from SIN, so that will most likely be the final stop (I may switch up my exit redemption if the flight I wants opens up but as of now I am planning on flying out of SIN).

Given the time of year and the weather I am not sure which countries or areas of the various countries would be the best to focus on? Also there have been some recent warnings about Pawan which was an area of the Philippines I was considering. Above Malaysia was mentioned and I would be interesting in seeing wildlife as well. Maybe go from vietnam to bkk to phillipines down into borneo etc and then head from there to SIN? Looking at some flights though it seems like I may have to fly out of the way to make connections to fly back to my target, so looking at a map and trying to plot my route out may not be the most ideal thing. I'd like to use points on some of these intra asia flights where possible, but only if it makes economic sense. The flights within vietnam seem to be decently priced that points even on the low end may not be worth using for them. Which airlines in SE asia should I avoid for safety reasons?
