The whole honor bar thing feels like an odd relic of the U.S.'s puritan past. Like not only are they making you report your alcoholic consumption, but they call it "honor" which adds an extra guilt element. I grew up in Europe where alcoholic beverages are part of the menu as a matter of course, so I can see how it seems strange to non-USians. I doubt the money the U.S. lounges make from the honor bar is a huge profit source; it seems more like a cultural statement handed down from the puritan days.
