Honor Bar - Mandatory or Optional?
Just finished a one-night stay at the Grand NY with my GF. We visited the Grand Club at 5PM yesterday (Saturday). First observation is how crowded the club was - I mean, wall to wall people.
I actually stay in US hotels infrequently and I am amused/dismayed that there is a charge for alcoholic beverages. We dutifully filled out the honor bar card and put it in the slot. We had a good vantage point of the area with alcoholic beverages and it became apparent that less than half of the patrons filled out slips for the honor bar. The staff never challenged anyone. We had three rounds and filled out slips for each. Having said that, the prices seems to be not much less than if we went to the main bar at the hotel.
It did seem like that after the initial rush of people, the remaining ones filled out slips.
Anyway, I assume the honor bar is mandatory: you drink, you pay. Am I missing something? Taking it a step further, are the staff required to monitor this activity? I am non-confrontational and would not be comfortable challenging either a patron or a member of staff.
