As
ijgordon pointed out, booking codes don't matter. Only class of service matters. I've accessed the lounge on a milesAAver award (a notch below AAnytime) and on a paid A fare.
When I use the terms F and J, I'm using them as generic abbreviations for First Class (F) and Business Class (J). It's meant to be inclusive of the various booking codes in each cabin.

Was it part of an international itinerary? If not, then it may have been incorrect. Even still, you would have been waiting for an upgrade into J and not F? It seems like you were mistakenly allowed into QF F. In any case, it's nice when airline mistakes work in your favor!
