I don't believe trip interruption covers you. When you read through the events that can happen to result in a covered loss, there's nothing in there about bad weather delaying a flight. It's all about major events preventing the rest of your trip from occurring.

Hey Neil,
Thanks for responding. The reason given by UA in their letter states "air traffic flow - weather" isn't that reason enough for trip interruptions?
can I file two separate claims for trip delay and trip interruption and see which one sticks? I don't think I can do that. I don't want to try something that will make my claim invalid.
