I actually like ORD...its got quite a bit variety-wise (though to be honest, usually at Tortas)...some fast-food (McD's, Billy Goat, ), some more casual quick or sit down (Chile's, SummerHouse...forget the deli toward the high C gates, Wolfgang Pucks and afromentioned Tortas) and some other usual favorites with folks (Starbucks, Eli's, etc.). Also a CIBO, which I think is OTG, but the old-style where you can (gasp) pay a cashier.
YYZ isn't the best variety-wise, but I appreciate that OTG wasn't allowed to take over the whole place...transboarder, they've got the area right when you come down out of security, and at a couple of the gates, but HMSHost still has its places (Tim Horton's, Great Canadian Bagel (in the barn)), and STS(?) has at least WahlBurger there now...don't know if they have more. So at least a variety of the big 3 food vendors there.

The only thing I miss in EWR/C is Vino Volo. Everything else is a step up from previous spots.
Fair enough to the first point. If the food is good, whatever its called, I don't mind.
Issue is two things - one, I don't mind the appearance of more fancy places, but there also need to be some casual as well as quick service options, of which EWR C has none, except for CIBO stuff to go. Food in the UC is just about hte only non-fancy option. Two - the food is not good at any OTG place I've ever eaten - average at best to fairly bad - combined with inability to properly order with exceptions given the system with the iPads. The only thing relatively good is some of the take out salads and stuff at CIBO. They have also way stepped up the price....combo of price beyond even what one would expect to pay at a major airports and below average food is, sorry, absolutely unacceptable.

This is going to be somewhat subjective, of course, but spot on. Yelp is generally pretty reflective for us, for places that are roughly American. Ethnic is always a challenge (including OTG places where it is, IME, completely unauthentic, having eaten the stuff locally in many countries where it originates....that isn't unique, as many outside places face this issue as well, but usually, most cities have the authentic places if you can find them...but not possible in an airport, especially where OTG has a monopoly).
My wife, of Indian decent, generally dislikes Indian places that get good reviews in most places, including at home (exception is in certain cities with a larger ethnic population, like New York). That's because many of these places are more Americanized - and therefore, like I said above, pretty unauthentic. Kind of get it. But as an example, many Indian places here ask the spice level you want, have a vat of whatever the dish is, and the difference between a 1 and a 5 in what you are served is the amount of spices they dump on right before they serve it, giving a harsh spice. That's not how Indian food is supposed to be spiced - it needs to be cooked properly with the spice so that blends in to the food and isn't harsh when you eat it.
