BTW - just a datapoint. CX interlined my bag a couple of weeks ago to my connecting flight to DFW after arriving in HKG from BKK. Additionally, on my outbound trip, AA interlined my bag to MH in HKG when headed to KUL, despite, in both cases, the onward flights not being a codeshare segment and booked on different PNRs.
Not true on separate tickets/PNRs.
Some will like CX (who changed there policy). Other will not like, BA & QF.

But it can depend on the check in agent. Some overide the airline policy.
