Trip delay or trip interruption?
Hi,
I previously had posted on the "Travel Delay" thread and got some clarification. But talking to a friend I was recommended to file under "Trip Interruption". I wanted some feedback and advice on what is the better option for me.
My wife an I flew UA on 27 Apr, PHX to LAX. We have a separate booking through CostcoTravel from LAX to PPT that night (1159PM). My scheduled 6:10PM UA departed only at ~9:20PM. We decided to just take our chances with this flight and it kept getting more delayed. Finally we landed ~11:10 PM.
Long story short, we were delayed, missed our next flight, had to stay that night in LAX. Air Tahiti put us onto the next flight that got us in on 28th night in PPT. Since there is no ferry at nights, we had to stay 1 night in PPT and only then next morning get to our final destination in Moorea.
I will be filing a trip delay claim with Chase (Hoping I can get some charges reimbursed). I was going to claim for hotels in LAX, PPT, food in LAX, PPT and next morning to Moorea, and extra cab fare to get to ferry (charged by CostcoTravel). ~$422.
A friend suggested I should file for trip interruption for loss of 1 night in Moorea. The resort refused to refund that amount (even in part) to us and to Costco (Costco confirmed this). But will this really fly? Reading the terms, I feel my chances of getting that 1 night are slim but it wont cover any other expenses. Am I reading it right? I need to get the split up and exact cost for that 1 night.
I'm super confused so looking forward to any expert advice here!
PS: I got a letter from UA stating reason for delay for "Air traffic flow - weather".
TIA!
