Yes, that's the problem. I doubt an employer would allow/approve of an employee buying a more expensive ticket than necessary so the employee can upgrade themself. Lowest available coach fare is pretty standard.

Pre-arranging with whoever review/approves timesheet/expense, and documenting the lowest applicable coach fare at the time of purchase seems to be best.
