I've volunteered my underseat storage space when I see an FA trying to help a late-boarding passenger. I can see a time when I might need a similar favor.
And in my assessment of people I'd like to sit with on a flight, I would rank you way ahead of the passenger who stands up for his "rights" and refuses to even consider allowing a bag to be put in "his" space.
