Mainline flights do not get a headcount by the FA's. When the gate agent closes out the flight, a message is sent to load planning and they send the weight and balance data to the pilots. Under normal operations the mainline FA's don't conduct a head count though. On United Express flights, each carrier doesn't have a load planning department that works the fights. The flight attendants conduct a count (much easier with a max of 76 passengers) and provide that count to the pilots. The pilots then get a CLR (cargo load report) from the ramp detailing bag/cargo loading. The pilots then compute themselves or send the data to a central server that automatically calculates weight and balance/takeoff performance data.
