You can also fly China Airlines via TPE. About a year and a half ago I had a pretty easy time booking business class flights from the west coast to Bali on CI; I searched each segment individually on Delta's web site. And the long-haul on CI was great.
I don't know if they fly to the east coast, and unfortunately finding decent Delta domestic award travel may be the barrier.
I flew China Airlines LAX-TPE in January en route to BKK on a DL award ticket.
Pretty great airline, comfort, and even the food was decent. I HIGHLY recommend them as they ALWAYS seem to have at least the LAX-TPE route available at LOW award level.
