Yes, they definitely have some limitations, so can be difficult to use. They are transferable if you know someone who has an eligible booking (e.g. new booking on aircanada.com, not using another promo code), but can't be applied to existing booking, rewards flights, travel agent bookings, or a bunch of other scenarios.
If anyone has an extra onboard cafe travel option promo code (gives you a free food/drink item), I could actually make use of one ;-)
