Normally I'd fully agree with that, but what about when the boarding pass has already been issued, surely a boarding pass is enough to get entry to the flight?
(I'm guessing here so please don't go and do this without knowing the risks, but it's very different from dropping legs outbound then expecting a valid ticket for a return some time after)
I'd imagine your BP would just be cancelled and you'd be refused upon trying to enter security and directed to the ticketing desk.
