Does a luxury sale drive up fares in lower cabins?

Kicking myself gently and wondering if there's any hope or whether I should lump it and cut my losses now:

Looking at LHR-PHL rt for early in September. Before the luxury sale launched I was seeing fares of around gbp950 pp for Y on AA over and WTP back, with a car rental basically thrown in for free. I didn't book at the time because I hadn't fully nailed down plans.

That has now shot up to around gbp1200 pp for the same flights, and what seems to be driving it is the WTP leg. Is it a known feature that they dial up fares in lower cabins to make the differential to the sale premium fare seem more reasonable? Or is this a simple availability issue and I waited too long? The upshot is that we weren't prepared to pay gbp1200 pp for WTP in both directions before and certainly will not pay that for only one leg in WTP, so we'll probably book Y on AA for both flights.
