Excellent! My first guess was Shenzhen, but then I found an image of the HKIA SkyPier on google which is very similar to your shot.
Yes, I have been to Hong Kong several times but only twice since the airport moved to Chek Lap Kok and was never aware that the ferry transfer existed.
My first visit to Hong Kong was as a backpacker in 1988. I remember my first landing at Kai Tak and will also never forget staying at the (in)famous Chung King Mansions on Nathan Road.
