You should be able to make it through a metal detector just fine. Your wallet should be put in a bin when going through security at the airport anyways.
As I've mentioned before, they were asking for ID immediately after the metal detectors for at least a few years after 9/11. Having one's wallet in the bin would not help with that. Granted, I haven't seen them ask in a very long time.
