I had a much better success as a Plat last year on advance upgrades (with miles) than as an EXP still waitlisted for this flight with VIPs. EXP desk says remember to take the paper certificates with you even though you may not have cleared.

Pity the folks who have to pay the expedite fee.

Even more seats open on return and open coach but still waitlisted.

One would think the airlines are moving towards standby upgrades only. Similar experiences at UA as well.
