Sounds horrible, I feel for you and hate people who won't take responsibility. Thais as a general rule are not accustomed to dealing with confrontation and unfortunately are more than likely to smile and laugh nervously than actually no how to deal with the situation. One of those crap situations where unfortunately you can't choose who you sit next too and can't get up and leave like in a restaurant!
