It only affects basic KrisFlyer members which makes sense as it has no practical use anymore. But SQ will still issue cards for Silver and above. I hope NZ never follow suit. A card is a symble of your status and I still keep mine for every single year I have achieved and retained Gold and Elite. Also with onesmart built into it, I don't see NZ abolishing it anytime soon.
I just find it convenient having it on my phone rather than fossicking about for a card. Most of the hotel chains seem to have digital versions. Very handy. My wallet got a bit stretched with cards and then they all started falling out. PITA. I don't mind if they keep a card but I'd like a digital version. Not sure if the current phone app is sufficient. Plus you might be able to get your card earlier when switching tiers or between years if you're worried about being away when your card arrives.
