Just buy a USB card reader instead. Some camera cables are proprietary; some aren't. Not sure about your particular one. But the card reader is plenty cheap and probably more readily available. And it will be useful over and above the cable because it will give you the ability to dump the pics without wasting camera battery. Many card readers read multiple formats these days, but you just want to make sure it reads CompactFlash in your case.

If your laptop has a PC Card slot, you could instead choose an adapter that lets you read the CompactFlash cards using that slot. Then there's nothing external to carry around at all.
