As booked as one PNR the bags should be just fine. Pack any medicines and a fresh shirt & underwear in your carryon just incase and you'll be fine.
With a long late morning into early afternoon layover in Chicago you may want to leave the airport and take a short cab ride over to Giordano's to try out Chicago's .......ization of pizza aka deep dish. It opens at 11:00 am.
