EU261 or travel insurance?

Hello again,

As some of you may have seen in another thread, I have been stuck in JNB for 2 days thanks to a very faulty 747 and some bad management.

As every article of clothing I have with me has now been worn AT LEAST three days each, I want to get a new t-shirt and some trousers at the clothing store in OR Tambo, so that should I actually manage to fly tonight, the person next to me on the plane doesn't need to ask to be moved.

I know that I will be entitled to claim EU261 compensation from BA, and I am assuming you can't claim 261 AND delayed travel from my travel insurance policy. But if I purchase clean reasonably priced clothing, is that part of the €600 EU261 compensation, or can I claim that separately from travel insurance? I have a very good Virgin Travel Black policy.
