Bit of an old thread, though the newest I can see...
Looking at flying into AKL via YVR/SFO on Air NZ and this 7kg limit bothers me. There is zero chance my backpack is 7kg - would NZ really force me to gate check a bag with 4 lenses, 2 DSLR bodies, a laptop with Li-Ion battery and assorted accessories? There's clearly a reason I prefer not to check these items, which normally comes to about 12kg inc. the backpack (which should be well within size at 34.8 x 18.0 x 49.5 cm= 102.3, < 118cm)
And if so, how about the 2x7kg limit for PE? Does 1x<14kg bag cut or or does one need to take a seperate backpack (and extra 1kg of weight) just to get it past check-in/boarding agents?
I don't recall issues flying Air NZ domestically a few years back, FI is the only airline that caused me grief and they allowed it, I had the laptop under an arm a camera over my shoulder, and a lens in a pocket.
Oh, and I weigh like 140lb/65kg. FWIW!
