Nut Allergy - help

Hi folks, new to FT (have lurked for a while, first post so please be patient!)

I flew CW back from UVF to LGW today (2nd May, arrived 3rd) with BA. I had, in advance, claled the Exec Club line to inform them that I have a severe nut allergy just so they were aware. I am fully understanding of the fact they cannot control other passengers but I just would have liked an announcement or similar because I really would rather not ruin everyones flight back home by getting very ill or worse (it is that serious with me I'm afraid). I also told the staff when I boarded.

Anyway, no announcement - fine, the folks around me were really understanding and didn't eat any and for this I thanked them. Breakfast was a series of pastries and a bacon sarnie. I grabbed a muffin from the options because it looked plainest (sad isnt it). I had one bite and knew it was a problem. I went to the galley and asked, they got the information card and the title of the item was 'pecan muffin'. I grabbed ice, water and went about keeping my body temperature down as with pecans this is the best course of action, for me at least, to delay the inevitable anaphylaxis. I did have an epipen but I am really adverse to using it unless it is the last option, especially on a flight, because it results in significant shaking, convulsing etc which doesnt really work when on approach - I certainly couldnt remain strapped in.

Anyway, landed, got off the plane. The staff didnt bat an eyelid as I semi conciously got dragged to the BA service desk by my wife. They told me there was no first aid and that if we needed help we were to email a generic address.

Ive been in hospital today and will be on meds for a bit to ease the effects. Essentially it could have been a lot worse and it was by luck rather than judgement that it wasnt.

After that drawn out description, my question to the collecive FT minds is...what do I do? Where do i go and how can I try and make sure this doesnt happen again? I mean, if it had been a kid for example the outcome could have been quite dire.

Any advice will be most appreciated.
