A couple routes from MIA are also available as daytime flights. But it is similar to NYC-LON where there are a couple daytime flights but most are overnight and no other cities in Europe typically have daytime eastbound service.
On the not losing a day, the one thing that is slightly unique about US-South America is that you aren't changing time zones in the same way that you do with US-Europe. Turning the flight back around and flying EZEIAH would miss most connections because it would arrive so late.
