Be aware that this can lead to a whole host of problems....or it can go off without a hitch

If there is a significant schedule change, DL may or may not see it in an appropriate amount of time, DL can't overbook KE or CI space if alternate flights are needed. DL could have a harder time making any potential voluntary changes. Lots of CSR's have a hard enough time looking into DL fare rules much less KE/CI fares which would govern the ticket.

CI or KE are less likely to help as well as it's not on their ticket stock for any non day of departure issues.

so be forewarrned of the potential dangers of booking a DL ticket with no DL space. You could end up in a horrible no-mans land of neither carrier wanting to help you. I know the official rules but I also know how the rubber meets the road in practice.
