You can easily get a Turbodiesel - ranging from Golf to Phaeton V-10 or BMW 730d. They get excellent gas mileage!

I understand highway construction's not allowed on Augusts. It would depend on when he is travelling.
Wiggums:
All the cars you are mentioning are top! However, the question is, SHOULD HE GO BY CAR OR TRAIN?
PRO CAR: The Autobahn to Nuremberg ( A3 Frankfurt/Main - Nürnberg) passes, is near, next to FRA. The route is scenic, passing Wuerzburg, Main Valley (Wine Country) ....
AGAINST CAR: This Autobahn has heavy traffic, a 3 hour trip can become easily a 5+ hour trip. The Autobahn is mostly "narrow" and hilly.

It all depends ...WHEN HE IS TRAVELING!
