Now, even if I have a *G card, I avoid LH&Co for these reasons, no lounge access because my flight is operated by our fully owned subsidiary Eurowings, no additional gold bag because no bag is no bag etc. On the other hand, LH now has some cheap restricted business class fares... but again, although these cheap C fares cost several times their Y fares, they earn no miles on partners.
Flying LH or BA has become an annoying experience, even Ryanair looks like less cumbersome with their "getting nicer policy"! So overall, I am happy with FB and AF KL, not because they are fantastic, but because they do a decent job and anything else is worse (apart from A3 and TK but not so useful for my travel patterns).
I agree with you when say that flying BA and LH is becoming annoying. There isn't much service left if you don't purchase BoB food or are not an Elite customer.
in the mean time, Air France are now providing a new menu for Y passengers on longhaul flights. It looks nice and it tells you what choices you have. Compare that to BA that don't provide it and their cabin crews not knowing what the food is.
