Call Centre Musings or Trying to Allocate a Seat

Hi,

Thought I would post my experience in case it helps others in the future.

Found an ok deal on Expedia for a TLV-MAD-JFK in Y return (about $400 less than on the Iberia website).

Once booked Expedia assigned us automatically (two of us) horrible seats on the four flights without charge (I guess as I am BA Gold?).

Iberia and all the other Oneworld partners sites would not allow me to change my seat allocation.

So I decided to call Iberia in TLV - Don't!
5 minutes of why I made a mistake and how I don't understand that booking through Expedia negates the option to choose a seat and even if she changes the seat allocation my ticket will be cancelled by Expedia?!? Followed by the story of how she ordered a kosher meal for a passenger which caused Expedia to cancel his ticket. The tone was one of naughty of you to ask and you need to be taught how the system works.

So I decided to call Iberia in Spain - Didn't work
Friendly operator who explained because I have a 075 ticket?!? I cannot request seats without paying for them regardless of status.

So I decided to call Iberia in the US - Success
Operator told me that because Expedia had allocated seats without charging for them I couldn't choose my own seats online?!? Solution was to cancel existing seat allocations and put again my BA Exec Number and then go online on Iberia.com and choose my seats.

It worked!

Moral of the story (well my story) - Call Iberia in the US

Hopefully will be useful to those who book Iberia flights on Expedia and can't select seats through the website.
