Hey! I'm trying to figure out a good way to navigate an upcoming flight situation.
On June 2nd I'll fly AA749 MAD-CLT, conneting there to AA2658 to JFK, and then to LA531 to LIM. It is an AA ticket. Ideally the flight should go as planned, but I'm trying to be proactive because I am a bit concerned that the CLT-JFK might get delayed, leaving me in JFK for a whole day –probably AA will pay for an hotel since it was their missconnection. If not, I'm covered by my Citi AA card–.
I have already called AA and they told me that the transit time at JFK (1h3m) is well into the MCT. However, FlightAware data says that AA2658 tends to leave with an average delay of 25~35 minutes, which would be a problem. The fellows at the LATAM forum adviced on trying to re-route ahead of time, and this falls on AA's side of the operation.
My question to you is, what methods do you advice when contacting AA?: being direct and ask pro-actively for a change of schedule, or going around it and indicating I'm not sure I could make the connection and I rather not spend a whole day in NYC?
Any suggestions will be appreciated –and to be clear, I don't mind being rerouted in any direction, if that means longer connecting times and making it to LIM within a 24hours window–.
