Actually I don't think the terminal is badly designed at all; it just may need some reconfiguration to reflect the current reality as traffic volumes have soared over the past years.
Longer term, some carriers might need to move over to T2, and Ryanair might need to be pushed back to Girona, where it used to have a much stronger presence.
