Special tickets require the travellers and their passport details to be registered with EK first. It is up to the discretion of EK whether to issue the tickets or not.
Most employees will have restrictions as to who they can add for their entitlements - this is to avoid reselling these tickets for profit, as many staff members have done and been fired for.
If you only have 4 days left to go, I would buy a normal revenue ticket to make sure you can travel.
