I realize that X doesn't give preferred seats but if i'm "paying" for business class tickets round-trip, i would have thought it would have booked into a higher fare bucket for the economy only short haul sector but I guess i'm being naive.

like i said, no big deal. it really is a case of curiosity.

one other thing i was wondering though was if i would be able to choose those seats up front at check in.
