For what it's worth when we toured South America in 2013 we used buses for Cordoba to Mendoza, Mendoza to Santiago (great ride over the mountains), Santiago to Puerto Montt (overnight bus with flat beds). For some we booked with Plataforma10 and for Santiago to Puerto Montt with TurBus.
I recall the prices being very reasonable.
