If you intend to use the ticket for tje same rerurn origin/destination you may get away with just a change fee. call up and when its time to book next trip bring up the cancelled reservation. They may take a few minutes but there will most lokely be some residual value, although change fee may eat it up. If changing origin/destination for the new reservation then yoi may run into ossies with it combing fares into a non-RT.
