For the other airlines, it will be difficult to use miles for an award at that time. If you can do so, you will probably have to use twice the normal miles in order to avoid the restrictions.
They do have a few blackout dates in December - according to Randy's chart these are December 22, 23, 26, 29 and 30, but other than that as you said there are zero capacity controls which I really appreciate (I don't think any other airline would have let me fly to Florida in December using a "saver" award), and in the past I have found the blackout dates fairly easy to work around.
